Detailed Variety Characteristics
Fernor is a premier French hybrid bred by the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) by crossing Lara and Franquette. It was specifically developed for continental mountain regions with severe winters and late spring frosts where standard varieties cannot survive or fruit reliably.
Fernor breaks dormancy very late in spring, safely dodging late frosts, and finishes its vegetative cycle early in autumn before the first winter freezes arrive. Its semi-compact growth makes it perfect for dense hedge orchards. The nuts have good internal quality, light kernel coloring, and excellent storage longevity. For optimal pollination, plant with Fernette and Ronde.
